>> good morning. thank you for joining us. i'm jon kelley. >> i'm marla tellez. >>> a break in a decades old cold case in the bay area has just been announced. christie smith live in dublin with how the murder suspect knew the victim. good morning. >> good morning to you. steven whitaker is the victim, and his family is inside sobbing as word of the arrest was announced, and one of them -- one of the suspects is known to the family, and that is his second wife. we're told they had a rocky relationship and we're trying to dissolve their marriage. they actually lived together at the time and were trying to sell their home. i wanted to show you a picture that detectives just shared with us this morning. the case has been cold for 23 years until his estranged wife identified as sheryl drake and her new husband, william devin were arrested and charged with his murder. detectives tell us that really what this amounted to was re-interview willing people and using new technology on old evidence. whitaker was found stabbed on to death on a redwood road, an east bay regional park. pol

>>> good morning. thanks for being with us. i'm marla tellez. i'm jon kelley. new at 11:00. we can tell you an 86 yeshld marathon runner from the south bay died after finishing that new york marathon this past weekend. her family says during the marathon she fell and hit her head. she thought she was fine, and then suddenly yesterday she passed away. nbc bay area's christie smith is live right now in the willow glen neighborhood in san jose where she has just spoken to that woman's family. what a tragic, tragic day. >> reporter: yeah, good morning to you, jon. certainly joye johnson's family is grieving this morning, but they're also sharing a story of an amazing 86-year-old woman. they say she still normally got up very early and came here to willow glen high school to work out, run with her friends. they called themselves the track pack. she ran the new york marathon for 25 years, met al roker a number of times, but then took a fall during the race sunday and later passed [cyaway. these are photos of johnson meeting roker after the race outside the "today" show monday. normally s

>>> happy friday. good morning, everybody. thanks, as always, for joining us. i'm jon kelley. >> i'm marla tellez. a bart breakdown turned into quite the headache for commuters this morning. for more than three hours trains were not moving at all on the tracks. nbc bay area's christismith is live in oakland. riders thought it was another strike when they showed up to see closed bart stations, but they quickly learned that that simply was not the case. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. yeah, that's exactly what they thought. i have to tell you, i just got an update from bart, and they're saying they kind of narrowed down the problem that they did expand a network server upgrade yesterday. 12 hours later it started to cause problems. there was a domino affect, they're saying, on their central computer, which wasn't functioning, and that led to us having no service at all this morning. things getting back to normal now, but we've been speaking with commuters, and they say between the strike, contract issues, and things like this, they've had enough. >> the fwats to bart station

closely. she joins with us the latest information. laura. >> and the very latest information, marla, includes nbc news reporting that a tsa agent was killed at los angeles international airport this morning. it all started about 9:20 this morning with reports of a man with a rifle inside terminal three at los angeles international airport. chaos ensued as multiple shots were heard. eight to ten shots reported by eyewitnesss in two separate moments. these are live pictures from the scene this morning. now, we understand originally at least two people were hit. we expect a special report from nbc news any moment now. officials at los angeles international airport report ag suspect in custody and there are multiple victims following a shooting. it occurred this morning, 9:30 pacific time at or near a tsa security checkpoint in terminal 3 of the l.a. airport. that will be the checkpoint for virgin america airlines. the gunman reportedly carrying a rifle. the motive unclear. we're told the situation is over right now. this is a picture -- these are pictures of the scene earlier. you see

on the weather for us. >> bob, as expect, those roads will be packed later on today, huh? >> reporter: good morning to you, jon and marla. yes, as you can see behind me, we're 680 northbound where we think we're starting to see some of that will get out of town traffic. people doing last-minute travel to get to their destinations for tomorrow. there are fewer people, however, hitting the roads this thanksgiving holiday, and it's not because of the price of gas. the price of a gallon of gas is actually dropped around 50 cents over the past few months, and if you compare the prices today with what they were at last thanksgiving, gas is still lower. right now we're averaging around $3.50 in the south and east bay per gallon of gas. $3.60. that's a drop of about 15 cents to 20 cents from last year. this according to triple-a. yet, triple-a predicts fewer californians hitting the road this week. 4.4 million are only supposed to be getting behind the wheel. that's about a 4% drop than last -- from last thanksgiving. what gives? well, triple-a believes it's unemployment and cash flow. people with

to the screen right there. twitter asked four people who used twitter in interesting ways to be their representatives on the podium this morning. now, twitter started trading about 50 minutes after that opening bell and the stock took off from $26 a share. last night's ipo did just under $47 share right now. what's remarkable is how very un-facebook it was. here's twitter and facebook. twitter on the nyse. facebook on the nasdaq. twitter, four people. facebook, the entire company. there were helicopters flying overhead at facebook. to be fair, facebook could not have known at the time that the day was going to work out the way it did. computer glitches, the stock largely unmoved. twitter making a statement with its very small little ceremony there. the ceo was on the floor of the new york stock exchange this morning. he is now flying back to twitter and san francisco before the closing bell. he hopes to get there for a celebration. as for vivian, guys, she's not headed back to school. her parents say they're taking the whole year off, and they're world schooling her. today

morning. thank you very much for joining us. i'm jon kelley. >> i'm marla tellez. this child last seen at an apartment complex on helen avenue in sunnyvale. today in the bay christie smith is in sunnyvale. this started with a fight about moving the child out of state. >> that's exactly right. the mother is it still here this morning at the family apartment. what investigators are telling us is that the mother and the father got into a disagreement yesterday because because the father wanted to move the baby back east with him. the mom said no. the latest sightings we have is that he may have been spotted around 9:20 this morning in central sentenan diego, the fat. they have notified the border police. he is suspected of taking his baby boy from the apartment that he shared with the family here in sunnyvale yesterday afternoon around 4:00. after that argument police say guler texted the mom saying he was leaving with the 2-week-old baby boy, and that if police got involved, he would harm the baby and himself. guler is a 22-year-old man of turkish descent. he was last seen driving a tan
